Traveling to Canberra

Canberra is served by Canberra Airport (CBR), the primary airport for the city. Most international travellers will need to connect through Sydney, Melbourne, or Brisbane, as Canberra Airport primarily handles domestic flights.

Flight Connections

While Canberra does not have direct international flights to most destinations, travellers can easily connect via major Australian hubs:

Sydney (SYD) – 55-minute flight

Melbourne (MEL) – 1-hour flight

Brisbane (BNE) – 1.5-hour flight

International travellers coming from North America, Europe, or Asia typically land at Sydney or Melbourne and take a short connecting flight to Canberra.

Ground Transportation from Sydney

For those arriving in Sydney (SYD), alternative travel options to Canberra include:

Driving: ~3-hour drive on the M31 highway

Bus: 3.5-hour journey with services like Murrays and Greyhound

Train: 4-hour scenic journey operated by NSW TrainLink

Airport Transfers in Canberra

Canberra Airport is just 15 minutes from the city centre by car or taxi. Ride-sharing services, rental cars, and public buses are also available.
